A solemn occasion
The branch, in High Road, was absorbed
into the expanding Lodge Brothers chain in 2002
and has benefited from a £40,000 refurbishment.
It has been fully decorated and
given new furniture and fittings to create a “homely
feel”.
Cllr Johnson was due to unveil a plaque yesterday
(Tuesday) and listen to prayers and a dedication
at the Chapel of Rest performed by local clergy.
Boutell & Son opened in Byfleet
in 1880, while Lodge Brothers was founded a century
earlier.
Today it is run by six members of
the Lodge family, who are seventh generation descendants
of founder James Lodge.
