Rain Reigns at Coronation
Triples
Bowlers representing clubs from all over the
county battled against the rain all day in the
annual Ladies Coronation Triples tournament.
This very popular event was organised by the
Wiltshire County Women’s Bowling Association
and was once again sponsored by A.E. Smith &
Son, the Swindon based funeral directors. The
tournament was held simultaneously at Highworth,
Wroughton and Wootten Bassett.
Unfortunately, the event at Wootten Bassetr had
to be abandoned after one of the lady bowlers
suffered a nasty fall. However, play continued
all day at Highworth and Wroughton despite the
incessant rain.
The eventual winners were the trio of E. McQuillan,
M. Smith and C. Woodbridge representing Wanborough.
The runners-up were the Malmsbury team of A. Bates,
A. Roberts-Phare and R. Frayling. Third place
went to the Amesbury team of A. Richards, J. Peacock
and M. Buckle.
Janet Seal, Hon. Secretary of the Wiltshire County
Women’s Bowling Association commented “Despite
the awful weather this popular event was once
again well supported by clubs from all over the
county. We would like to congratulate all the
ladies who participated and offer our special
thanks to our sponsors A.E. Smith & Son for
their valuable support.”
Explaining their involvement in the tournament,
Andrew Lodge Director of A.E. Smith & Son
said “As a long established, family owned
funeral directors we believe it is important that
we play our part in supporting local community
events such as this very popular annual bowls
tournament.”
